New £455,000 Welsh Government Grant Scheme to support Black, Asian and minority Ethnic community-led and grassroots cultural activities
Diverse Cymru is delighted to announce that we are managing the Welsh Government’s Culture Grant Scheme for Grassroot Organisations and that the scheme will be open for applications in mid-August 2023.
The Welsh Government’s Culture Grant Scheme for Grassroot Organisations is one of a range of activities taking place that will support Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people, including people from Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities, having equitable access to and involvement in cultural activities across Wales. The Grant Scheme is a direct response to two specific actions in the Culture, Heritage and Sport section of the Anti-racist Wales Action Plan. It addresses the need to review funding application to improve outcomes for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic-led organisations or people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background and ring-fences resources to support grassroots cultural and creative activities among Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic groups. The Grant Scheme will support and further strengthen participation, engagement and representation of Black, Asian and minority ethnic people s by investing further in new cultural activities with grassroot groups across Wales, to enable them to access funding and support for projects and creating a programme of diverse cultural activities up to December 2024.
Welsh Government has outlined its commitments and initiative on race equality, published in June 2022 in the Anti-racist Wales Action Plan. The Plan outlined Welsh Government’s vision to become an anti-racist nation by 2030 and set out key priority goals and actions for eleven policy areas including for Culture, Heritage and Sport.
This new initiative will enable Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic community groups and organisations in Wales or community groups or organisations whose clientele are primarily Black, Asian or Ethnic Minority people, to access single or multi-year capital and / or revenue project funding.
Groups and organisations will be able to apply for funding up to £30,000 depending on the size and constitutional status of the group.
We want to support a range of projects and groups that reflect the diversity of Wales’s communities including, but not exclusive to visual art, community art, dance, carnival, festivals, performance, literature, and music.
The first grant round will open mid- August 2023 and online engagement events will be held throughout August and September where interested groups will be able to meet with the grant administrators and find out more.
